We believe that cultural exchange builds understanding and community. Through festivals, workshops, educational programs, and social events, we create opportunities for people to share experiences, learn from one another, and celebrate the richness and diversity of Japanese culture. Our work is rooted in community, collaboration, and the belief that culture can bring people together in meaningful ways.
As a small volunteer-driven organization, we are proud to support cultural connection, encourage learning, and help foster a vibrant and inclusive community in Halifax.
Our History
Our journey began as the Sakura Market in 2023, aiming to create a vibrant space for Japanese and Japanese Canadian residents in Halifax, fostering connections and celebrating our rich heritage. Through Sakura Market, we’ve collaborated with Japanese businesses to enrich the lives of Haligonians though diversity, growth, and cultural exchange. Witnessing the market flourish from a small initiative into a bustling event, the Sakura Market organizers recognized the potential for greater impact and evolved the group into the Halifax Japanese Culture Collective in 2025. This transformation allowed us not only to sustain the Sakura Market but also expand our reach and ensure our communities continue to thrive.
